The sequel to 2009,s reboot of Star Trek, directed by JJ Abrams (next project Star Wars Episode 7). The story begins with Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana) along with the remainder of the USS Enterprise completing a mission, upon a volcano planet. While this takes place, in London a young father is suffering from his daughter,s life threatening illness. He meets an unknown man (later identified as Khan) who says he can save his daughter. In return for saving his daughter,s life, the young father has to kill himself along with thousands of people in Section 31. The team of the starship enterprise return to home base, where Captain Kirk meets with other ship captains to discuss what to do about Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch). Khan attacks the captains meeting killing most of the term leaders, before escaping to Kronos. Kirk has to assemble his team again to capture & prevent Khan from destroying more people.

Beginning the start of the summer movie season(not counting Iron Man III) i was hoping Star Trek Into Darkness would live up to all the hype. While not being a bad film, it was rather disappointing & could have been so much better. Seeing this in Imax 3D, a big problem i had was the ratio changes almost every 2-5 minutes. Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan is a mixed bag of a villain, at times he is menacing, other times he just under used . The closing battle between Khan & Spock is very rushed, the story is overly cluttered & why is Peter Weller,s character such a big part of the film & a villain ?. The film is not a complete loss despite these, as Cumberbatch is great at times, Spock & Kirk,s interaction & dialog is enjoyable while Simon Pegg as Scotty is very funny & excellent in the role. The story also ends really building towards a third film, with characters fates in uncertainty.

Overall Star Trek Into Darkness has its enjoyable moments, along with good characters & effects. But ratio changes,an overly cluttered plot, a mixed bag of a villain & acts like a bridge to get to the third movie.

3 Stars
